After Plymouth City Council’s Planning Committee threw out the application for a new student block on Winston Avenue, the developer appealed. The appeal has now been heard and the Council’s decision upheld. There will be no development.

Councillor Chaz Singh, who campaigned alongside local people to stop this eyesore being built, congratulated everyone who has helped stop Gulland House going ahead. Chaz said:

There’s no doubt that with a growing, successful University we need more student accommodation. But it has to be in the right place and respect existing residents. This plan did not do that. I’d like to thank everyone who helped me get the Planning Inspector to turn this down.
